Hey I'm Jeff
I'm a Senior Research Engineer at Google working on program synthesis, generative models, and deep learning. Most notably, I've worked on Gemini, CodeGemma, and PaLM-2. Additionally, my applied research and engineering work has shipped in products such as Gemini Code Assist, Colab AI Coding, Project IDX, and Android Studio Bot. I've also done a short stint inside Google X, building artificial intelligence for a then confidential project that we eventually externalized as Codey.
Prior, I was an early engineer at Cohere, an NLP startup, where I led data infrastructure and data quality work; building resilient data pipelines for transformer-based neural networks and supporting research on large scale generative models.
Before that, I built factory software at Tesla to optimize the machine that builds the machines. I helped rollout our software for the opening of Gigafactory Shanghai. I also spent time at Shopify where I worked on Kubernetes ingress/routing infrastructure for a fleet of 50+ clusters and on Sections Everywhere, the biggest update to the Online Store Editor in the history of the company.
I went to school for electrical and computer engineering… I used to build robots but now I just tinker with their brains.
