Hey I'm Jeff

I'm a Research Engineer at Google DeepMind. I work on large language models such as Gemini, CodeGemma, and PaLM-2. I've also helped integrate our models and ship them to hundreds of millions of people in products such as Gemini Code Assist, Colab AI Coding, Project IDX, Android Studio Bot, Bard, and more. I've also done a short stint inside Google[x], applying generative modeling to program synthesis.
Prior, I was an early engineer at Cohere, an NLP startup, where I led data infrastructure and data quality work; building resilient data pipelines for transformer-based neural networks and supporting research on large scale generative models.
Before that, I built factory software at Tesla to optimize the machine that builds the machines. I helped rollout our software for the opening of Gigafactory Shanghai. I also spent time at Shopify where I worked on Kubernetes ingress/routing infrastructure for a fleet of 50+ clusters and on Sections Everywhere, the biggest update to the Online Store Editor in the history of the company.
I went to school for electrical and computer engineering where I used to build robots… now I kind of just mess with their brains.
